What Is an Anti-Slip Floor Treatment?

An anti-slip floor treatment is a chemical or mechanical process applied to a floor surface to increase its slip resistance. Common methods include chemical etching, which creates microscopic texture on the surface, and topical coatings, which add a textured, high-friction layer on top of the existing floor. Unlike a mat or a warning sign, a treatment changes the grip of the floor itself, rather than managing the hazard around it.

If contamination and maintenance are ruled out and the surface itself is still testing poorly, a treatment is likely to help. If a spillage point is simply never cleaned promptly, no treatment will fix that on its own.

Does a treatment last forever once applied?

No. Like the floor itself, a treated surface wears with footfall and can be affected by the wrong cleaning products over time. Its grip can decline again if it isn’t measured and maintained properly afterwards.
