Colette James suffered serious injuries in 2017 whilst visiting Perdiswell Leisure Centre in Worcester. Walking towards the changing room after a swim, she slipped, fell and broke several bones in her back.

This story has resurfaced recently after Miss James criticised the council for not having replaced the tiles.

Looking into the matter in more detail, it became apparent to us that the council had sought to anti-slip treat the tiles. Notes available online here say that the council engaged a company called SafeGroup twice to deep clean and anti-slip the tiles, and that the correct cleaning regime was implemented per recommendations, but this failed as 57 near misses were reported in October 2020 alone.

In our experience, situations like this can be solved, but specialist advice should be sought from experienced slip safety experts.
