Personal slip story

Slips is the biggest cause of people going to A&E, the biggest cause of accidents in the workplace, and the biggest cause of insurance claims following injuries.

As such, anyone reading this can probably think of someone they know – whether themselves, a family member, a friend or a colleague – who has suffered from a slip.

In this video I discuss a slip accident story that is personal to me:

Whilst slips are so common, the defences against them are so weak based on what I see day-in, day-out.

Plonk a yellow sign out and hope for the best.

That seems to be the way that most businesses try to combat slip safety risks.

This is both ineffective at preventing accidents and will leave you open to successful civil (insurance claims) and criminal (HSE prosecution) action against you,

If people had in mind that it could be their spouse, their children, their good friend, their mother or father… who might slip over in their business, they might take a more robust approach.

If you want to do that, here’s how to start:

  1. Review our CHIMES model
  2. Take a quick look at the 6-Steps To Slip Safety methodology
  3. Spend ten minutes to take the Slip Safety Scorecard

You’ll then know more about this subject and start to appreciate the complexities. You’ll see a roadmap for what you can do to improve the situation. And, by taking the scorecard, you’ll be able to benchmark your current performance versus best practice on the 6 Sources of Slips (CHIMES).

Only by taking a more considered and robust approach will you start to see accidents and claims falling. Taking the “we’ve always done it that way” approach will see slips continue to happen, people continue to get hurt, and your bottom line continue to suffer the consequences.
